In Memory of Minoo, Our Dear Cat
Minoo, our cat of 13 years, passed away on January 2, 2003, after a fairly short battle with cancer (fibrosarcoma). With the prognosis leaving her no hope for recovery, we decided to forego surgery and allow her to live to the fullest until the end. Minoo was an independent, outside cat, used to running in the great outdoors, and surgery along with endless treatments would have ruined her last few months with us. We made her as comfortable as possible, giving in to her every whim. We took walks with her, played with her, spent as much time with her as possible in those few months. She lived 6 months without any noticeable difference in her behavior, then the 7th month she went down fast. When the illness got too bad, we took her to the vet, something I had hoped we wouldn't have to do. This was the most difficult day of our lives. We miss her very much, so I decided to pay my respects by publishing this page. I know she's not human, and it may be a bit silly to make a memorial to a cat, but she meant so much to us, it's the least I could do.
A little info on Minoo: Minoo was a stray when she befriended us, we took her into our lives, and she saw us through the ups and downs of life, moved with us, waited for us when we went on vacation. She was always there. She had the most unique personality of any cat we'd known. Didn't like to be petted, didn't like to be hugged, didn't like to be picked up. But she did care about us (she just had her pride). She wasn't the mushy kind. She wasn't the kind to sleep on sofas all day. She loved the great outdoors, loved nature -- especially birds and squirrels ;-), loved her independence. Minoo was smart and cunning. She liked to be treated as an equal, to eat with us at the table. She got closer to us as she aged. Never would have dreamed of stepping on a bed or a sofa when she was young! She learned to love us in a way we could understand. Minoo was a part of our family for more than 13 years, and a void has been left in her place.
and how you liked to eat them raw in the lanai
How you would meow at the top of your lungs at night, so we'd let you in
The time you feigned being ill because you saw us petting the neighbor's dog
How you weren't afraid of anything except for strong lightning and UPS trucks
How you cared for you kittens and left them in our care when you wanted a break
How you loved honey-roasted turkey and how you'd go nuts
when you heard the plastic wrap being opened
How you would ruffle through the vertical blind when I didn't pay attention to you
and you wanted out
The trips to the vet for your annual shots and how you would cry
the whole way and back because the car made you sick
How you used to sleep under the fake Christmas tree so we couldn't see you
How you used to climb on forbidden things, like my violin case or the fridge
How you liked to trim your claws on the trees in the yard
How you like to sleep on my bed in the winter when it was cold,
although you didn't like to admit it
How you loved to roll in the freshly cut grass and pull yourself across the yard
How you used to scare dogs away, and any cats that came near
How you loved to sleep on the ground in the lanai when it really hot outside
and on tile when it got too hot
How you liked to sleep on newspaper inside, or on anything that wasn't soft
How you understood everything we said to the point of surprising us sometimes
How you loved coming to the garden with us, and following us
even though you didn't want anybody to know you cared about us
How you cared for us and we for you.
Then take a look at these...
